Brutal Sun
Overview
The Brutal Sun server is a roleplay, casual PVP server. As a cooperative and fun environment, the Admins will do their part to ensure that the player experience is immersive, fun, dynamic, and keeps the game fresh and fun to play. With this goal in mind, the players also have some responsibility in helping create a fun environment. Brutal Sun exists to add content, depth, and immersion into the game. Although we have PVP elements, we are not primarily a PVP server. If you are interested in PVP and raiding as the MAIN portion of your experience, then this server is not right for you. Brutal Sun is a Roleplay server, that has PVP and raiding incorporated into it. Although these rules exists to help us all operate fairly, Admins may make individual rulings on specific instances. If your actions are driving players away from the server, or damaging the environment the Admins are trying to create, then you will be asked to find another server that fits your play style. When in doubt, ask yourself "Am I enriching the server by playing here, or am I damaging what the overall gameplay experience for other players?" if your answer is not clear, then chances are you are not enriching the experience.
General rules that apply to all players (admin and non-admin) and all areas of the map are:
1. Be respectful. NO racial or sexual harassing remarks or posts. Racism, Sexual Prejudice, Oppression based on age, gender, or sexual preference is not permitted.
2. All Admin rulings are final, in all instances. Although the rules exist to create boundaries of play within the server, the Admins reserve the right to make a case by case ruling, without setting precedent or establishing a permanent ruling.
3. Respect and follow the rules regarding no-raid, and no-pvp zones.
4. Do not attack Admins. Admins will not help a player, or clan achieve any specific goal or action. Admins are present to facilitate gameplay and create a fun environment.
5. Admins reserve the right to Ban a player permanently. Please see “Offenses and Banning” section.
6. Griefing is not permitted. Although no official definition of Griefing exists, it will be the Admin’s responsibility to rule on a case by case basis, whether actions are griefing in nature or not. Some Examples of griefing are:
a. Camping a player base where they cannot play the game, due to constant death or destruction.
b. Inciting or Name calling based on PVP
c. Harassment in chat, global, local, discord, or guild.
d. Name calling or attacks that are personal in nature
e. Attempting in any way to block a player from playing the game
f. Specifically stalking a player multiple times in an effort to kill them as often as possible
Roleplay
The roleplay element exists to add depth to the game and make the experience for the player more immersive. As such, each one of the Admins has assumed the role of an avatar of a God in the game. You can find the Admins easily by their naming handle (ADMIN) Mouth of (God Name Here). If a character does not have (ADMIN) prior to their name, they are not an Admin. If a player creates a handle with (ADMIN) in the title, and they are not an approved admin, this is an offense that will cause the Admins to ban that player.
The in game global chat is used primarily for RP interactions, please keep the out of character chat to a minimum.
Please keep in mind that the General Chat and ADMIN chat is considered “out of character” and as such, no roleplay is required or expected. This is an area where we can simply talk and have fun.
Roleplay is not required to play on the server. Although it is highly encouraged and, from time to time, certain rewards are bestowed upon players who help create the best roleplay environment.
This is an adult oriented server. Although an adult oriented server, this does not mean sexually explicit. There are potentially underage players on the server. It is not required to monitor your language, or refrain from sexually oriented jokes, but keep in mind that there are players who are not comfortable and underage that could mistake what you are saying. Before engaging in any activity or roleplay event that could be considered “18 or older” please ensure that we are respecting the Law and protecting the safety of underage players
The Gods
Each Admin has assumed the mantle as the voice of one of the Conan universe gods. Each is identified by their handle. As such, each one of the gods is responsible for their respective religions. There are a few extra perks to becoming a Devoted “See Devotion” later in the document. Although specific admins play the role as the voice of their God, this does not reduce the overall authority over the server each Admin has. If the Mouth of Mitra makes a ruling, Yog devoted players must still follow it. There are opportunities to petition the gods for action, or to reverse a ruling via popular vote of the gods
The Gods are jealous beings, and do not like to share their Devoted followers. In order to expand the influence of the Gods, build temples at your bases and servers. “See Offerings to the Gods” later in the document.
“The Market Event”
The Gods also encourage trade among players, and themselves host trading events. Once per month (check the calendar on the website), there will be a “Market Event”. Players may bring goods and currency (see “Currency”) to trade with other players, and trade with the Gods themselves. The items available at the market vary from month to month.
“Currency”
Although no official mechanism exists for currency yet, Brutal Suns uses silver as its base currency. Rare to find, most often silver is given as rewards for events, quests, and being active and productive members. Silver can be used to barter between clans or players, as well as at the Market Event, to purchase items direct from the Gods. Please visit the website to see a list of items, and their cost in Silver. Once currency is officially introduced into the game, these rules will be revised to reflect the in game mechanics.
“The Devoted”
Clans can become devoted to a certain God, by constructing temples and registering on the forums as being devoted. The criteria for becoming devoted is registering clan name and each member, as well as making sure the total number of temples to their devoted god, is more than any other 1 temple they possess. If devoting to Yog, for example, they must have 2 Yog shrines if they have any other temple. There are no negative consequences for choosing not to devote to a God. There are certain instances where events and admin quests are ONLY available to their devoted clans.
“Offerings to the Gods”
In addition to the other monthly events, once per month the Gods open the door to receive offerings from clans. By providing offerings, the Gods may grant items, lore, rare and non-craftable gear and clothing, true name tokens, or even grant wishes. Each God has preferred offerings. There are three levels: Small, Medium, and Large offerings. Although the Gods have specific tastes in offerings, think outside the box, experiment with your offerings During the offering event.
There may be specific events hosted where the Gods request specific items that have been hidden throughout the world. Watch the forum posts .
In addition to the traditional offerings. Any player that offers a true name icon as their offering will receive 1 wish from the God. These wishes may be worked out between the God and the player. Wishes cannot be used to destroy enemy bases, or otherwise damage player structures or players. These wishes are individualized and must be used when the offering is made.
Player Vs Player
Brutal Sun is a relaxed PVP server. As such, there are rules in play to facilitate fun PVP, without ruining the overall experience. Strict adherence to these rules is required and like anything else on the server, Admins have the final ruling when it comes to disputes over these rules. Ground rules are:
1. You may only raid a base once per day. This is not a rolling 24 hrs., but a timestamp. This is a Pacific Standard Time server, so all raid restrictions reset the following day at 3pm PST. This means you may raid each base once per day, beginning at 3pm PST and ending at 9pm PST. Failure to follow this rule or attempting to find loopholes in the rule is subject to the progressive steps of discipline (see penalties section).
2. PVP is allowed on newbie beach (see map). Although base raids are not permitted on newbie beach, killing individual players is allowed as long as it does not cross the line of griefing.
3. PVP is allowed, but Admins will not give a specific player advantage, nor will they aid one clan or another in victory. Admins with a player, will step aside when PVP commences and not intervene.
4. Do Not Grief.
Raiding Bases
It is considered a Raid when a player, or clan takes action against another player or clan’s base that causes damage to the structure. Additionally, if a player enters another player’s base due to a door left open, that is also considered raiding. When taking action against a base, it is raiding. Additional rules regarding raiding are:
1. Structure damage is turned on at 3pm PST and disabled at 9pm PST. It does not matter if a player or clan is present during a raid. “Offline” raid is permitted, but be aware that structure damage will but turned off outside of the 3pm PST to 9pm PST timewindow, This does not mean you CANNOT raid the base, but it will be substantially harder as the base will not be able to be damaged. Admin’s will manage this via the in game server settings. If you are raiding a base and it is not being damaged, please check the time. It may have automatically turned off structure damage if it’s before or after the allotted time. Please note that Admin loot bases are also affected by structure damage time, so plan accordingly. There is no difference between "Stealing, Looting, and Raiding". If its not yours, and you took it from someone's structure, at any point. its a Raid. Raids, once initiated, are not repeatable. Once you begin a raid, you MAY NOT LEAVE and return to your base to resupply. Additionally, once you leave the raid, you may not return to "get the rest of the stuff". Plan ahead, bring what you need to raid, take what you can carry or need to take, and leave.
2. Exploits will not be tolerated. This is an early access game and there is no way to manage all exploits with the quickness the developers release patches. Rewards are given to players who report exploits they discover.
3. All bases must be capable of being raided. This does not mean that you cannot build defenses. It is important to note that we do not advocate building a base that is weak. Raiding should be a challenge, but not impossible. Bases that are deemed not raidable by Admin are subject to immediate deletion. Do not try to find loopholes, do not try to wait for Admins to say something to you, follow the rules and the intent of the rule. With the introduction of climbing, making an unraidable base has become pretty difficult, but admins reserve the right to make a ruling on a case-by-case basis.
Building
In order to survive, build, and dominate, a player must build a base. The building dynamic of this game leaves a lot of room for interpretation. There is not dedicated definition of what constitutes a base vs an outpost. Each player or clan is allowed one base and one outpost. No tier 2 materials are allowed on newbie beach. General definitions of each are:
Newbie Beach
New players may wish to stay in the no-raid area at the south of the map named Newbie Beach while they advance their characters. See the server map for boundaries. Structures on newbie beach may only be constructed using T1 materials. Shrines, benches, and wheels of pain must be T1, as well. Basically anything that requires the Journeyman Craftsman feat to construct may not be placed on newbie beach. Raiding structures on newbie beach is forbidden. Because of this, residents of newbie beach are not permitted to raid other clans. You may participate in raids once you move north of the beach and set up a permanent base. Upon leaving newbie beach, it is expected that you will return and demolish your newbie base within a reasonable time. Admins will periodically clear newbie beach, usually once per month, in order to make room for new players. If you have just joined, make sure to let the admins know so that your base will be spared.
Base
1. Capable of full production of all materials in the game. This is the “home base” of a player or clan. Bases that span multiple peaks of mountains, or segregate a section of the map from other players are not allowed
2. May be made out of any material, in any configuration.
3. May contain a vault and other t3 structures
4. Considered the “home” of the clan
5. Base sizes are limited to a 30x30 foundation block footprint. This does not mean your base must be one continuous structure. You may have walls with structures within, but the overall map footprint of your base may not exceed 30x30. If the Admins rule that your base is over the size limit, you will be asked to reduced in size. Failure to do so will be cause for base deletion. There is no height limit on bases, although reasonable sizes are required.
6. Skyscraper towers are not permitted.
Outpost
1. Each clan, or individual member (if not in a clan) may only have one outpost
2. Illegal outposts are subject to deletion without warning
3. May not be constructed of T3 material. Only t2 and below
4. May not contain a vault
5. May not contain a level 3 shrine
6. May not contain full production capability (all benches, multiple)
7. Is considered a wayward location for clans to regroup, thrall (with t2 wheel of pain or less), gather resources, and feeds the main base with supplies.
8. May be no more than 3 blocks high (not including roof tiles). This means an outpost may be no more than 3 stories tall.
9. Must be raidable as main bases are
10. outposts may only have a foundation block footprint that is 10x10 blocks. Anything larger is ruled as a base and is subject to deletion
Additionally, ANY container, bench, wheel of pain, etc. that is NOT located within your outpost, or the footprint of your base is not permitted. These containers and benches are not protected by the rules. They are considered claim blocks and not permitted. Admins will delete them on site. When in doubt, put it inside your base and secure it.
Raid Structures
Temporary raid structures may not exceed 6x6 footprint. During the raid, this is permitted as a staging point for attackers. Once the raid is over, these MUST be taken down immediately. They are not permitted to be left after the raid. Raid outposts are not protected by the "Raid" Rules. When constructing a raid outpost, be prepared to remove it immediately, have a plan. Raid structures may only be constructed of T2 materials and below.
Other building rules
1. Vaults may not be built outside of a base
2. Vaults may not be used as walls for bases
3. Skyscraper towers are not permitted. Use reasonable judgment for height.
4. Under no circumstance, are “Claim Blocks” allowed. The land claim radius in this server is generous, do not place random blocks to keep people from building . All random blocks including benches, chests, wheels of pain, etc. (Not within a base or outpost) will be deleted without notification. Clans will also receive warnings for offenses. If you're unclear, ask an Admin.
5. Torches must be part of a base or an outpost, no extending torches to create paths. Torches contribute greatly to server load and lag.
6. Do not build walls that prevent player movement from one area of the map to the other. Exterior walls that encompass a base are permitted, but no preventing access to entire areas of the map.
Server Settings
1. Avatars are only enabled the last Saturday and Sunday of each month, from 1200 Pacific Standard Time until 3:00pm Pacific Standard Time. Avatars may be summoned and used at this time.
2. If an Admin structure is labeled "Admin, No Raid", the it is completely off limits to players. No raiding of any kind, in any fashion is permitted.
3. All chests and benches are set to be opened by any player, regardless of ownership. Guard your chests! This setting is on because Admins plant many hidden treasures throughout the world for the finder to enjoy. Additionally, this adds a gameplay dynamic that makes people much more guarded about their storage. Remember, vaults can be opened by anyone, as they are a chest. Don’t leave your vault unguarded.
4. Certain Admin Events will necessitate a temporary change in settings. These may be: Increases EXP gain, Decreasing spoil rate, increasing night time duration, etc. Server settings will always be restored to default once the event is over.
